Ava Frisinger has lived in Issaquah for 40 years although she began life in New York City and grew up in Michigan. She has put her time in Issaquah to good use by serving through city government and as part of many committees dedicated to the betterment of this city.

Ava currently serves as the Mayor of Issaquah and for years has served on the City Council. The committees she has been a part of or chaired are numerous and include The Issaquah Planning Commission/Planning Policy Commission, and Regional Law, Safety and Justice Committee.

She has served as a volunteer with the Issaquah Youth Advisory Task Force, and Downtown Issaquah Comprehensive Plan Review Committee, Mountains to Sound Greenways restoration, Friends of the Library, and Issaquah History Museums among others.

Ava was a delightful person to interview. She was gracious and easy to talk with and Anne was honored because she is a very busy person. Anne felt right at home in her office as it was filled with many pieces of art and artifacts from her travels around the world including some beautiful Northwest native art.

Some of her most vivid memories are of her Grandfather MacDougall. He worked at the Michigan Capitol Building and Ava spent quite some time being shaped by his career there. He was generous with his time and told many stories to her as well as lots of poetry. His clan tartan, the MacDougall Tartan, is Ava's contribution to the painting. She remembers that he always wore one of those paper red poppies on his lapel representing war veterans.

One of Ava's many goals is to complete the "Zero Energy Project" in the Highlands. These are 10 town homes that return the same amount of energy back into the grid as they consume. This inspired Anne to paint a scene of a peaceful bird, enjoying its surroundings, unaffected by suburban neighborhoods. Also, Ava loves ravens.
