Phillip Dungey is a musician, conductor and teacher. A Seattle native, Phillip comes from a multigenerational family of musicians and teachers. Placed before the piano at age six, Phillip stubbornly refused to play. Five years later, when he decided to play an instrument, he just as single-mindedly chose one of the most difficult instruments in the band: the French horn. Eventually convinced that the trumpet might be a better starting point for a 10 year-old, Phillip picked up the instrument and never put it down. From self-described "worst kid in the band" Phillip went on to play principle and concert master roles in school and statewide bands, youth orchestras and college, university and professional orchestras. After years of living throughout the United States while growing up and attending college, Phillip Dungey returned to his Northwest roots to teach.

Phillip teaches band for the Issaquah School District, provides private brass instruction and is a member of the Northwest Symphony Orchestra. He lives in Issaquah with his wife, Winifred, an extremely accomplished violinist, and his three children surrounded by instruments, positive energy and a love of family and music. After considering careers in music performance, math and computers, Phillip has discovered that he is at heart a teacher. He loves working one-on-one with his students, planting in them the seed for a life-long love of music, as his parents and teachers did for him years ago. Phillip Dungey is the native son returned home and hundreds of young musicians have been the beneficiaries of his energy and enthusiasm.

Larry Calkins was raised in a small logging community in Oregon and now lives in Issaquah with his wife, Sabine, and several dogs, cats, hens, donkeys and mules. He fits within the frame of Outsider Art and is featured each year at the Outsider Art Fair in New York. Larry Calkins' talents expand into several areas of artistic expression including painting and sculpture. Larry uses metal, fabric, paper, paint, drawings, photographs, found objects, dirt, wax, clay or wood in his works. Larry's work is based on stories, telling of events, real and imagined, past, present and future. He brings this storytelling into play as he captures Phillip Dungey and his tuxedo as concert director for a youth band - a role that is the culmination of the energy, passion and talent Phillip brings to his work with students. Larry's extensive teaching career includes a residency at the Mmuseum of Glass in Tacoma, and courses taught at Pratt Fine Arts Center, Coyote Jr. High and Kirkland Art Center. This experience as a teacher allowed him to more fully appreciate and capture the satisfaction and pleasure that Phillip experiences when working with kids.
