Drawing
The Awakened Eye: Seeing/Drawing as Meditation
Sundays, February 7th - March 7th 10am - noon
(4 sessions; NO class Feb 21st)

What do you notice as you look around you? How deeply do you want to experience the world and your way of seeing? This is a class in perception and finding the way to express your unique experiences. Technique is a small part of this class. Awareness and slowing down are the essential components of SEEING AS MEDITATION. A simple, quiet process that allows insight and sight to merge. "One day on the road..., I noticed a bit of ivy round a thorn stem... and proceeded to make a pencil study of it in my grey paper pocket book, carefully, liking it to more and more as I drew. When it was done, I saw that I had virtually lost all my time since I was 12 years old, because no one had ever told me to draw what was really there! I had never seen the beauty of anything, not even of a stone, how much less a leaf!" -John Ruskin (1819-1900)

Class Fee:  $80 does NOT include materials (Student supply list: 11 x 14 drawing book, fine point black pen, 3 pencils (HB, 2B, 6B), plastic eraser)

Mixed Media
Art as Yoga

Yoga is about connecting, breath, body, and spirit. Art is about connecting what is seen and felt by offering it to the world as form. Using simple breathing techniques, mindfulness meditation, and gentle stretches, we will observe what we find inside. As images and colors emerge from the sensations of quiet space, we will bring them to canvas, paper, and clay. This is a simple practice of opening to what is and allowing that to be seen.

Monoprint is a simple printmaking technique that consistently produces intriguing, exciting results. Learn how to make one of a kind prints without a press-using acrylic paints and water-based oils. These prints are expressive, immediate, and fun. They combine the textural, unique quality of prints with the spontaneity of painting.
